A new version of an old subject

Hi Everyone.
Here’s my first new painting for a few months. The one project I’ve never got round to until now is to repaint one of my few originals from years gone by. I was lucky enough to have the original of this hung in a Royal Birmingham art exhibition in about 1998. Then 10 years later I sold it to a couple who live locally as they had an interest in both collecting art and imagined stone circles.

I’ve posted a copy of the original painting on this website blog along with the new version. Luckily the original detailed sketch was in my art plan chest so it was easy to use Transtrace to copy the basic shapes and then to improve free-hand the original in my current style. The bird on the earlier version was a bit vague so I replaced it with two owls. Hopefully I’ve increased the tunnel effect to draw in the viewer and I changed the flooded path/stream a bit.

I hope you’ll enjoy looking for ‘spot-the-differences’ like the cartoon competitions in old newspapers and puzzle books!
All the best
